Too many difficult levers render most ergonomic chairs useless; many users are never able to properly adjust the chairs to maximize support and comfort. This chair is designed to give maximum ergonomic benefit with a minimum number of manually adjusted controls. In fact, it has only three settings, yet provides customized upper and lower back support, height range, neck support, and arm position. More than just a piece of office furniture, the chair is a sophisticated ergonomic device designed by master artisan Niels Diffrient (The Smithsonian's 2002 National Design Award winner) to emphasize proper sitting for a variety of body sizes, shapes, and postures. A unique counterbalance system built into the chair works like a large scale weighing mechanism: as you recline, your weight automatically balances the force required to recline the chair, so you always get the right amount of recline tension for full support. Called "...the world's simplest and smartest office chair" by AXIS, the chair's counterweight core "senses" where the sitter's weight is aligned and adjusts accordingly, augmenting or reducing support resistance as necessary. The injection-molded arm rests don't even have a lever; instead, they move up or down simply by lifting the end slightly, so the right arm height is always at your fingertips. The polyurethane foam seat has a layer of free-gel padding like a semi-liquid shock absorber that gently cradles the sitter without pressure points. The headrest is always just the right distance away: off the neck when sitting straight upright, then gradually moving closer to the neck to provide the proper support as you recline further. Die cast aluminum frame is lightweight without sacrificing durability, and will maintain the strength of its unique weight system for a lifetime.
